Registration
Registering shows your commitment to fundraising in line with the Code of Fundraising Practice in a way that is legal, open, honest and respectful. You will be able to use the Fundraising Badge – the logo that says ‘registered with Fundraising Regulator’ – on your fundraising materials and be listed in our public directory to show you are signed up to fundraising best practice.
Charities pay registration fees scaled in line with what they spend on their fundraising activity each year and non charities that carry out charitable fundraising such as CICs and commercial businesses pay registration fees scaled in line with their fundraising turnover.
Display the Fundraising Badge
Registering with us and displaying the Fundraising Badge – the logo that says ‘registered with Fundraising Regulator’ – shows your commitment to excellent fundraising practice. It means people can have confidence in the way you carry out your activities. You can download the badge and guidelines on its use from our registered users’ area.
We take unauthorised use of the badge very seriously. If an organisation displays the badge but is not registered with us, we will seek its immediate removal. If organisations continue to refuse to comply, we will report them to other appropriate regulators and potentially take legal action.
Access more fundraising opportunities
People are more likely to give to organisations that have registered with the Fundraising Regulator and display the badge to prove it. Increasingly, registration with us is required to get permission to fundraise on private sites, such as train stations. Trusts and foundations also use our directory when making funding decisions.
Comply with charity law
By law, some charities must include a statement in their annual reports about any voluntary fundraising schemes or standards which the charity or anyone fundraising on its behalf has agreed to. Fundraising agreements with third parties must also include details of any voluntary fundraising scheme or standard that the commercial organisation has committed to be bound by.
Protect the good name of charitable fundraising
Regulation can only be effective if it is adequately funded. By paying your share you’re helping to protect the reputation of the whole fundraising sector. Effective funding means we can promote good practice and act against those organisations that damage the reputation of fundraising.
Get fundraising support
Effective funding means we can continue to provide key services to support fundraisers such as tailored guidance and training webinars. We are also available to give advice on the code to help you understand and meet the fundraising standards and send out a regular newsletter about information you need to know.
Improve donor confidence
Together, our regulatory work and the good practice of fundraisers is helping to restore public confidence in charitable fundraising. This can increase donor confidence and open up more fundraising opportunities for charities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
